Salvino A. Salvaggio, PhD

I bring over three decades of international work experience, with extensive senior management skills across several innovation-intensive industries or organisations.

Since September 2022, I am Executive Director at Hamad bin Khalifa Univeristy (HBKU), part of Qatar Foundation (QF).

I also am a member of:

the International Advisory Board of the European Parliament’s Panel for the Future of Science and Technology (STOA),

• the Strategic Advisory Board of the Contamination Lab, State University of Molise, Italy.

All the professional positions that I have held over the last three decades directly involved management of innovation aiming at creating economic value. Examples of relevant such experience are:

1. Executive Director of the VP Research, Development & Innovation (RDI) Office in Qatar Foundation (QF), overseeing the VP Office team, the seven QFRDI centers (Qatar BioBank, Qatar BioMedical Research Institute, Qatar Computing Research Institute, Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute, Qatar Genome Program, Qatar Precision Medicine Institute and Qatar Science & Technology Park, incl. its investment funds) and the implementation of initiatives.

2. Implementation Director in QF CEO Office, responsible for establishing and launching the national Research, Development and Innovation Council in Qatar and cascading the new governance framework for Research, Development and Innovation, including the definition of the policies and procedures specifically relating to R&D and technology innovation.

3. As Director of Funding and Industry Analysis of the Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP) I created funding programs aiming at developing and launching innovation-based business projects and new ventures.

4. Early 2000s, I was an expert consultant in McKinsey & Co, mainly involved in strategy management and business building of tech-intensive projects for large multinational organizations, government authorities and education institutions. I was an active member of the @McKinsey incubator in Brussels.

5. Experienced Manager for Accenture, where he led the Brussels Innovation Centre, an incubator launching and supporting business ventures and start-ups across Europe

I taught in several universities, and over the years, I launched and managed my own tech start- up companies. I published scientific and professional articles and books, and a novel that won a first European prize.

In August 2007, I was designated a Commander by the President of the Italian Republic.
